Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took aim at Jake Paul for criticizing Bad Bunny's Super Bowl half time show.

Paul stirred controversy after saying he was "purposefully turning off" the show and called the Puerto Rican performer a "fake citizen" who "publicly hates America."

"Let's rally together and show big corporations they can't just do whatever they want without consequences (which equals viewership for them) You are their benefit. Realize you have power," he said in a social media publication.

The post was fact-checked on X: "People who live in Puerto Rico have been identified as US citizens since 1917. Additionally Jake Paul, who has lived in Puerto Rico since 2021, still would technically qualify as a US citizen," reads the post from Community Notes.

AOC slammed Paul, noting that he moved to the island "to avoid paying your taxes while kids across America go hungry?" "Meanwhile Benito actually funds low income kids' access to arts and sports programs, while you defund them. Of course you're mad. He makes you look small," she said.

Paul was also criticized by his brother, Logan, who said "Puerto Ricans are Americans & I'm happy they were given the opportunity to showcase the talent that comes from the island."

Paul then sought to clarify his remarks, saying he wasn't calling Bad Bunny a "fake citizen" because he is from Puerto Rico.

"I live in Puerto Rico, and I love Puerto Rico. I have used my platform to support Puerto Rico time and time again and will always do so. But if you're publicly criticizing ICE who are doing their job and openly hating on America, I'm going to speak on it. Period. That's the same reason I called out Hunter Hess. If you benefit from a country and the platform it gives you, but publicly disrespect it at the same time, that's what I mean by being a fake citizen. And I agree love is more powerful than hate. Love America," he said.
